Wine and its intoxicating effects are celebrated in Minton's Silenus jug. Following the themes of Bacchanalia, this beige colored jug was one of Minton's earliest molded jugs. In Greek Mythology, Silenus is an elderly companion of Bacchus. On this jug, Silenus and a young Bacchus are shown drunk and held by satyrs.
