Vintage 1930s Winter Black Velvet Maxi Dress with Leaf Long-Sleeve Beading Motif

As shown. See all photos. I have to assume this belonged to my mother’s father’s mother. I think this because my mother’s mother was slender and petite and this dress is larger, like my mother’s father’s mother was. Certainly it could have belonged to someone else in the family, but this is my best estimate, and likely it doesn’t remotely matter to the buyer. But if it was hers, I’m told she was a wonderful woman. Born 1885 Jean Brooks Powell. Died 1977 Jean Brooks Powell Madden. According to 1933 newspaper clippings, she was Legislative Chairman of Juvenile Protection for the Illinois Congress and worked as part of and/or closely with the National PTA. I’m told she was an acquaintance of Eleanor Roosevelt.

It’s a gorgeous probably custom piece that’s seen better days. BUT, it lasted this long. All intact. Peep beadwork! LMK if more photos would be helpful. Just lint/dust!
