Meiji period decorative plate

The Meiji period in Japan (1868-1912) was a time of rapid modernization and westernization. During this era, Japan began exporting goods to the West, including porcelain and ceramics. To comply with the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890, these items were marked with the country of origin, often using the term "Nippon."

Meiji period porcelain is characterized by intricate designs, high-quality craftsmanship, and a blend of traditional Japanese motifs with Western influences.
